Drift
You're out there with a little ship and four thousand quiet stars. Scan a system, drop onto a world, catalogue what's growing, and poke around the wrecks. Three civilizations used to live here. They're gone. The Echo Archive is what's left of them, and you're the one still moving.
That's the whole mood. No space battles. No loot treadmill. Just you, a map, and a trail of people who didn't make it.
What you do
Fly into a system and scan it. Pick a planet that looks interesting. Land. Walk. Catalogue flora through the survey visor, log ruins and wrecks, and sell the records at a station when you want credits for upgrades.
Worlds actually feel different. Forests rain. Deserts kick up dust. Lava worlds will cook you if you wander too far from shelter. There's a day and night cycle, a jetpack, a ship you can summon, and a hangar if you want a different hull.
Stories in the dark
The Echo Archive is the main thread: twenty sites scattered across the galaxy, each one a breadcrumb from Vaelith, Orrun, or Sythari ruins. Follow the pink pin. Read what they left. Sometimes Mission Control wants a report before you can keep going.
There's a second trail too, amber, quieter, twelve steps. You don't have to finish it. It's there if you get curious.
Scan a system and you might also pick up a local contract. Probe a gas giant, pull a camp out before the weather turns, hail a caretaker that's gone a bit feral. File the report when you're done.
Two ways to voyage
Exploration is the calm version. Same galaxy, no hostile caretakers, no dying stars. Good if you just want to wander.
Survival is the same map with the pressure on. Suit vitals, planetary hazards, storms, and systems that can go supernova while you're still in them. Shelter at your ship, a station, or a base you planted yourself.
Training Reach walks you through the basics on desktop if you want a guided first run.
The rest of it
Stations buy your survey data and sell upgrades: better scanners, a stronger jetpack, night vision, a ship shield so your parked hull becomes a little bubble of safety. You can drop a survey base on a world and come back to it.
Mission Control is an optional radio. It works offline with canned replies. If you plug in a Groq key, the voice on the other end gets a bit more alive. It never gets to invent new objectives. The game stays in charge of where you go.
There's a journal. There's a galaxy map. There's a hangar. There's a lot of empty sky, and that's kind of the point.
